Jakes Top Eight Of 2006

Okay not that anyone cares but I thought that I would list my top 8 music discoveries of 2006. This may include music sites, albums (some new and some older), and even some from bands I have reviewed. I would have done a top 10 but I couldn't think of anything else. This list is in no exact order.

1) Jamendo: great music site where all songs are under Creative Commons licensing. Most artist are from Europe. A lot of great music, but also some bad, but I think that is to be expected

2) Drunksouls - On Verra Plus Tard: Great Reggae band from France. Found them on Jamendo. Whole album available for download for free, and under the Creative Commons license. Band recieved 4 1/2 stars out of 5 on my review.

3) Thom Yorke - The Eraser: Frontman from Radiohead, releases first solo album and it is easily one of the Album's of the Year.

4) Tool - 10,000 Days: Tool's Fifth album, didn't necessarily like the first single when I first heard it but it of course grew on me relatively quick. This is right up there with Thom Yorke as one of the Albums of the Year.

5) The Pubcrawlers: Celtic-Punk band from Maine. They don't sound exactly like the other bands in this genre like Dropkick Murphys, the Pogues, or Flogging Molly. They are a great band. Band recieved 5 out of 5 stars on my review.

6) Betsy Spivak - The Scratch on My Vinyl Soul: Yet another band/artist I've reviewed (4 out of 5 stars). Female fronted acoustic pop a la Ani Difranco and Tori Amos. Witty lyrics and great vocals.

7) The First Punic War - Unicorn EP: great album, 3 amazing track. Experimental electronica punk. Actually I really don't know what genre to call this, but way worth the listen. The First Punic War has the ability to become an underground phenomenon. Gave this album 6 out of 5 stars in my review.

8) The Murder Room Project - Music More Hippies Like To Fuck To: Okay this album actually was released in 2004, but I have re-discovered this album in 2006. There is, in fact, only about 10-25 copies of this album available, and I'm lucky enough to have a copy. Fucking great music that you will kill yourself too. I highly recommend picking up this CD if you can find it.
